[Beauty & Style]
This section is dedicated to furnishing a lady, making her "a proper bit of frock". It is my very own finishing school!
Drapery misses
is a term used in the victorian era to describe a woman who is groomed
to be a lady. It was mainly a description of women trying to get a rich
husband by learning manners, etiquette and how to dress.
The phrase was first mentioned in Lord Byron's Don Juan poem:
The milliners who furnish “drapery Misses”
Throughout the season, upon speculation
Of payment ere the honey-moon’s last kisses
Have waned into a crescent’s coruscation,
Thought such an opportunity as this is,
Of a rich foreigner’s initiation,
Not to be overlook’d – and give such credit
That future bridegrooms swore, and sigh’d, and paid it.

Have waned into a crescent’s coruscation,

Not to be overlook’d – and give such credit
That future bridegrooms swore, and sigh’d, and paid it.
