International Coffee Day
Good morning my lovelies and happy International Coffee Day!
Today I didn’t have coffee, but Gene Tierney did in 1951.
Anyway there are other ways to celebrate besides drinking coffee. For one, we can learn a few fun facts hehe. That’s no fun I know, but we will anyway.
About Coffee:
The word Coffee is derived from the Arabic word قهوة (Qahwa), meaning brew, which was used as a name to describe wine of the Romans.
There are many stories about the origin of coffee, but it is agreed that the drink was first introduced in Yemen after the beans were found in Ethiopia.
The first Coffeehouse opened in 1530 in the city of Damascus and shortly after, in Cairo. It eventually spread to Europe by mid 17th century.
Coffee Break was introduced in the 19th Century by the USA. The purpose was to have a break at around 11am, hence the term Elevenses. It is basically snack time.
Here's a video of the process in which coffee is manufactured:
What Is Your Favourite Café?
My current favourite is Fauchon, but I usually have tea there (it isn't my favourite tea place though). I don't think I ever order coffee in a proper place, but if we were talking commerial speciality coffee chains, then I'd say Caribou Coffee, I love their Turtle Mocha. I love the Gloria Jean's Coffees atmosphere though, so if I were to go to a commercial coffeehouse, that'll be it. Their coffee's good too.
What Is your Favourite Type of Coffee?
I am more of a tea person, but I do occasionally drink coffee. My favourite is Mocha, because it cuts the bitterness of coffee, plus I love chocolate hehe. Lately though, I started having Cappuccino.
When I was a child, my mum used to always order Cappuccino, so I associated that with being grown up and looking sophisticated and junk. It is what I strived for hehe.
Unfortunately, I have too much of a sweet tooth that only recently was I able to endure the bitterness. So now I'm officially a sophisticated adult, at 36.
What Kind of Coffee Pot Do You Prefer?
Don't you just love this simple coffee pot the beautiful Marilyn Monroe was holding in How To Marry A Millionaire, 1953!
I found the exact same one in rubylane, unfortunately though, it's sold out. I did find a new cheap, but similar-looking one, called Coletti Bozeman Percolator Coffee Pot.
I love a variety of styles when it comes to serveware, which is natural for someone who loves tea or coffee and enjoys celebrating it.
For me, each style could represent an occasion, place, type of company or even time of day. While the coffee pot Marilyn is holding, is for kitchen use only, most of my favourites are acceptable for public use. So here's my list of favourites so far:
There are so many others, I'm sure, but if I list them all, it will take me forever and a day and I really want to end this post, so that's all from me today, adios muchachos!

Favourite cafe? Hmmm that’s a difficult one...but since we’re in Oman I should choose something here...so I choose Fauchon only because we’ve been going there a lot lately, but for the atmosphere both Richoux, Chedi and Angelina.
ReplyDeleteMy favourite coffee are Omani coffee and strong Turkish coffee...and Cappuccino when I want something very light and with milk.
I’ve loved coffee ever since I was 3 when I tried Omani coffee for the first time without Mama noticing hehe.
Although I drink everyday rather than coffee I wouldn’t say I like one more than the other because they’re both very different, but Tea makes me calm, relaxed and feeling light, so I always choose tea over coffee.
I really love the Charles Wright, Ercuis and Tiffany and co. coffee sets
DeleteCan't think of a cafe i like here! maybe treat at the intercon bc the coffee there is good .... love the art deco sets
