Alice Provensen
I just learned today that Alice had died only four months ago. Today she would've turned 100 had she still been alive.
Alice and Martin Provensen are one of my favourite illustrators if not the favourite. I love their work and found that while doing my own illustrations, years ago, most of my inspirations came from them.
I do everything with Rasha, I know not many people understand that, so I was happy when I read that Alice felt the same way with her husband - at least in work, "we were a true collaboration. Martin and I really were one artist". With Rasha though, it's not only in art, but in most aspects of my life.
My favourite book they made together is "The Provensen Animal Book", 1952, better known as "The Animal Fair".
They thought of the funniest things too! Here are a few of the funniest pages from the book:

The quote...it can easily be one of us saying it! I love you my chuckaboo!
ReplyDeleteI love them too, and they’re one of my favourites, but not my number 1...you are!
I wanted to meet her just as much as I wanted to meet both Sherman brothers. It’s very sad...
Why do you have to go on and say things like that! I don't want to be emotional.
DeleteYou're my favourite too! I really want you to do the children's storybook of the little boy. I know it will be a sensation! and all of the rest of your amazing ideas.
I wanted to meet Alice too...
The strange thing is that Alice died in April and Martin died in March. He died on the 27th too...
I hope we can at least meet Richard Sherman someday insha'Allah!
